Yarmouk University President Dr. Islam Massad sponsored the opening of the exhibition "From Neglect to Beauty: Innovations in Recycled Furniture Design," organized by students from the Department of Design and Applied Arts in the College of Fine Arts, under the supervision of Dr. Asem Obeidat, Dr. Yaman Sakina, and Dr. Omar Al-Shboul.
The participating students showcased the design stages, from initial concept to final product, through display panels and visual media. They also provided technical explanations of recycling and reuse methods, supported by samples of the materials used.
During his tour of the exhibition, Massad listened to a detailed explanation from the participating students about the exhibition's objectives, which align with the Department of Design and Applied Arts' vision of promoting a culture of sustainable design in response to the growing environmental challenges facing the world. The exhibition also presents innovative models that combine functional beauty with environmental awareness, providing an educational and interactive platform that integrates academic practice with a societal dimension. Massad praised the outstanding quality of the works on display, which featured diverse models of recycled household furniture and the use of various materials, such as recycled wood, plastic, metals, and textiles, to produce new functional furniture. This exhibition was organized with the aim of showcasing students' creative and technical abilities in designing and manufacturing recycled furniture, instilling the concepts of sustainable design and environmental innovation within the curriculum of the Department of Design and Applied Arts, providing students with the opportunity to apply their acquired skills in real-world contexts through productive projects, raising awareness of the importance of material recycling in design and furniture manufacturing, and highlighting the role design can play in addressing environmental issues.
