As part of the "Towards a More Beautiful School" initiative: An artistic partnership between Yarmouk University and the Bani Ubaid Education Directorate contributes to beautifying the school environment and stimulating creativity.
As part of the "Towards a More Beautiful School" initiative, the Department of Fine Arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Yarmouk University, in cooperation with the Bani Ubaid Education Directorate and Hafsa Bint Omar Basic Mixed School, created three meaningful murals that contributed to beautifying the school environment and transforming several of its facilities into expressive visual spaces that convey diverse educational and environmental messages.
The murals, created by three female graduates of the Department of Fine Arts—Jana Al-Nadi, Raghad Barjas, and Shatha Al-Sabbah—embodied themes inspired by the spirit of the initiative, which was overseen by teacher Eva Nicolai from Hafsa Bint Omar School and aimed to raise awareness of environmental issues. The artworks addressed topics such as climate change, pollution, and nature, and presented educational artistic messages that reinforce the concept that preserving the environment is a shared responsibility. They also highlighted the role of art in employing aesthetics to serve community awareness and promote sustainable behavior among students.
Dr. Mohammed Salem, Head of the Fine Arts Department, stated that the initiative complements the university's educational and community role. He pointed out that these artworks are not merely school activities, but rather represent an educational project reflecting Yarmouk University's vision and mission to prepare students who possess human values, leadership skills, and a spirit of initiative capable of effecting positive and constructive change in society. He emphasized that the university's role is not limited to providing academic knowledge, but extends to building a value system that instills in students a spirit of giving, responsibility, and humanitarian work, in line with the vision of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, who affirms that volunteer work not only creates active citizens but also builds a cohesive society and is a fundamental pillar of unity and solidarity among citizens of all ages.
For his part, Dr. Ali Al-Rabeeat, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, affirmed that Yarmouk University places great importance on community initiatives that contribute to building a conscious and active generation serving their country. He noted that the initiative reflects the university's commitment to establishing a culture of organized volunteer work, fostering a spirit of active citizenship among students and graduates, and providing them with opportunities to engage in field projects with a sustainable impact on local communities. He explained that continuous communication with graduates represents added value to the work of the department and the university, as it facilitates the exchange of experiences, the development of educational programs, and highlights the creative role of art students in the community sphere.
At the conclusion of the project, Hafsa Bint Omar Basic School hosted a ceremony honoring the Head of the Fine Arts Department, Dr. Muhammad Salem, Dr. Munther Al-Atoum, and the graduating artists in recognition of their efforts and support for the initiative. The ceremony was attended by the school's principal, Ms. Sajida Al-Akour, and the Director of Education, Ms. Nisreen Bakkar, underscoring the importance of partnerships between educational institutions and their role in promoting sustainable development and raising the level of aesthetic awareness in schools. This initiative comes within the context of Yarmouk University’s direction to launch field projects and activities that contribute to serving the community, reflect the role of fine arts in promoting aesthetic and environmental values, and highlight the impact of art in creating awareness and upgrading the place to become a stimulating and attractive educational environment for students.
