Overview
The Theatre Division was established in 1981. It was one of four units in The Department of Fine Arts at Yarmouk University, and the first to introduce the practical and theoretical study of drama and theatre in Jordan. In 1994, The Theatre Division expanded and developed its undergraduate curriculum in concert with the ideals and objectives of Yarmouk University. It offered four separate majors leading to a Bachelor degree in Acting and Directing, Literature and Cretinism, Cinema and Television, and Sceneography. In 2001, The Department of Fine Arts was expanded and became The College of Fine Arts. At the same time The Theatre Division became The Drama Department with two separate divisions: The Theatre Division and The Cinema and Television Division. The Department offers a Bachelor of Arts degree for Undergraduate majors. Drama courses are designed to give students opportunities for research and practice. At any given time, there are approximately 150 students in the department pursuing Bachelor degree in drama. The Theatre Program provides its students with an understanding of the great legacy of dramatic literature, practical, and technical skills as they relate to public performance, and training in critical thinking. The Cinema and Television Program provides its students with the theoretical and applied experiences in television and Cinema that promote the discipline's excellence. Mission
The mission of the department is to provide a comprehensive drama education. The Drama Department will promote drama as a necessary art form through productions that challenge, enlighten, and engage the audience. We believe excellence in education: requires competency based outcomes and assessment; enhances the lives of students, faculty, staff and alumni; embraces diversity; Contributes positively to the workplace and the larger community. We believe in the importance of developing personal values, ethical practices and social awareness. We believe in the positive impact of dram on individuals and society. We believe the foundation of success is built upon respect for one another and active participation in a collaborative environment. We believe that the education we provide has its foundation in the business community and serves society.
